As many of you probably know KINGDOM OF ASH is officially out. Whilst this release is a long time coming and deserves it’s celebration and spotlight – let’s not let it overshadow some other great releases that also deserve some attention!
New Releases

October is clearly winning for book releases this year. Kingdom of Ash, which is probably the most anticipated book of the year, was released October 23rd. I can hardly wait to get to this — and I honestly can’t believe the time has come. A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi is another notable release this October. Which has already made it to The New York Times (Young Adult Hardcover) best sellers! The Witch of Willow Hall is Hester Fox’s debut, which released early this October. Can you ever have enough witch books in your life?

Other notable releases include:

  • The Darkest Star by Jennifer L. Armentrout (October 30th) – A spinoff of JLA’s popular Lux series, featuring Luc.
  • The Light Between Worlds by Laura E. Weymouth (October 23rd) – A debut novel following two sisters who are transported from a London bomb shelter to another realm called the Woodlands. Anyone getting reminiscent about Narnia?
  • The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory (October 30th) – Jasmine Guillory’s follow up Adult Romance to her debut novel The Wedding Date.

AnnouncementsDove Cameron announced via her Instagram that the adaptation of Julie Murphy’s Dumplin’ will be released early December this year. This is not one I’ve read but it’s definitely on my radar. Also, really confused about the lack of marketing on this movie. Where’s the trailer if this is a December release?!

The adaptation of Josh Malerman’s 2014 release, Bird Box is set to air December 21, 2018 on Netflix. Sandra Bullock is the main character and this looks like an incredible performance. I’m so excited for this one, the book was great and so I have high hopes!

Emma Watson has interviewed some authors on the ‘Our Shared Shelf’ YouTube channel. Reni Eddo-Ledge is the author of ‘Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race‘ and writer/poet Rupi Kaur was also interviewed recently on the channel. Get a snack, these videos are deliciously long!

I’ll end today’s post with a relevant video to what most people in America are probably celebrating. Does anyone else look forward to Andy going through a Haunted House every October?! 😂 Happy Halloween! 🎃👻

    1. Thank you for being a loyal commenter and engaging! It makes these posts fun 😃 Yeah too many mixed reviews (mostly not so good) from what I’ve seen about Dumplin’ that I don’t think I want to invest any time in reading it. But a movie I’ll definitely watch. & Yes it’s awesome, more witch books please ✨👻📖

  1. I’m so excited for Kingdom of Ash, even though I’m stupid and still haven’t read Tower of Dawn. Why am I always so behind on series??? I didn’t know Emma Watson had a youtube channel, that’s so cool! Wonderful post 😊💕

    1. I haven’t read Kingdom of Ash yet so I can’t say if you need to read Tower of Dawn, but I would recommend it! It’s one my favourite books in the series (mostly because I’m trash for the romance and main character Yrene.) Yes she has a YT about her book group. I love her interviews and just the fact that we get to see more of her! & Thank you so much for the nice comments always 😚✨
