WHAT I READ IN MAY 2020

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all well! As usual I’m doing a very late monthly wrap up, but nevertheless I was very lucky to have a mostly enjoyable reading month. I’m not sure what happened or what I was in the mood for, but I mainly read a bunch of romance books. Honestly reading plus size romances is the best form of self care for me so I’m not mad about it at all!

1

LORE OLYMPUS BY RACHEL SMYTH ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fantasy • Greek Mythology • Retelling • Romance

This was definitely the highlight of my May. This series was such a whirlwind I can’t believe season 1 is over! I need more Persephone and Hades moments in season 2!

PUNK 57 BY PENELOPE DOUGLAS (REREAD) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Adult • Dark Romance

One day I got stranded with just my kindle and with nothing new on it to read – I just picked up an old favourite from last year. I still got all the feels with this a second time round. Read my full review here!

THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT SWEETIE BY SANDHYA MENON ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Young Adult • Romance • Contemporary

This is one of the best body posi stories I’ve ever read. This is a must read for people on a journey of self love looking for something comforting and good for the soul. Read my full review here!

HARVEST OF SIGHS BY SIERRA SIMONE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Adult • Poly Romance • Sapphic

I am so glad I continued with Sierra’s Thornchapel series. This Sapphic romance was EVERYTHING. Romantic, steamy and heartbreaking. I seriously need Delphine and Rebecca to be okay in the fourth book otherwise it will destroy me. Personally I didn’t care about Auden and Saint’s romance at all. Poe and Beckett just felt kind of… there too. Read my full review here!

THE TOURIST ATTRACTION BY SARAH MORGENTHALER ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Adult • Romance

This one reminded me of Well Played by Jen DeLuca and I loved this small town cute romance. The more I think about it the more I appreciate what it did! It was so nice to read about characters that don’t have their life figured out in their early or late twenties. Honestly it so humbling and I’d love to read more stories with characters like it. THE WALL OF WINNIPEG AND ME BY MARIANA ZAPATA ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Adult • Romance • Slow Burn • Marriage of Convenience

This was a conflicting read, because I enjoyed the romance but it was also a bit disappointing. I loved From Lukov with Love by this author and was so excited to pick up this book because everyone said it was an amazing slow burn, enemies to lovers romance – but it was really anything but an enemies to lovers romance. It was definitely a slow burn and I still enjoyed the marriage of convenience aspect. I guess I was just expecting something else. This read like a slice of life style narrative, very mundane kind of romance. A lot of cute moments, but I personally needed more angst and intimacy for this to have been an amazing read.

THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE BY LAUREN JAMES ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Young Adult • SciFi • Space Expedition

This book was such an unexpected joy. I know 3 stars looks mediocre, but I had such a fun time reading this scifi expedition story. I think by proxy I always like expedition stories, although this one feels very isolating. The only character for a lot of the time is Romy who is in space by herself venturing to a new earth after a tragic incident left her parents and other passengers dead. The intrigue of the story is what kept me going and had me so excited, I definitely didn’t see the twists coming either which I enjoyed!

WAITING FOR YOU BY ELLE SPENCER ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Adult • Romance • Sapphic

This book was not at all what I expected it to be. I personally like romance that is catered to 20-somethings. But that’s on me not reading the blurb properly. Read my full review here!

SAINT X BY ALEXIS SCHAITKIN ⭐️⭐️
Adult • Mystery • Thriller

This was way too hyped for me to enjoy it. The audio made the characters sound very pretentious and I thought whatever lesson this book had just went over my head. It was branded as being fresh and unique, but it just missed the mark for me. I also didn’t like how much we jumped POVs in this, it kind of takes away the tension and mystery.

THE SILENT PATIENT BY ALEX MICHAELIDES ⭐️⭐️
Adult • Mystery • Thriller

This was another thriller/mystery that was way too hyped for me. I was kind of surprised that everyone enjoyed the writing so intensely. It was perfectly okay don’t get me wrong, I just expected something unique or fresh but felt that it was neither – just very mediocre.

And that’s the wrap up! I’d love to hear your thoughts if you have you read any of these books?
