For most of June and July, my reading life was really dry and boring. In the last week or so, I’ve been adding way too many books to my to-read pile. But I’ve rationalised my recklessness because it’s made me excited to pick up books again.
A lot of those books added to my to-read pile were thrillers. I think because we’re getting closer to October my priorities seem to be shifting and I just want to read more spooky things! I also started a Kindle Unlimited subscription because my library is closed. Now I desperately need to make use of that subscription.
Triptych by Karin Slaughter
I have just been craving to read more from Karin Slaughter. Her writing and female characters really seem to work for me, so I’m going to start exploring her back list and can’t wait to have my mind blown.
The Passengers by John Marrs
This book sounds like an episode of Black Mirror – eight self-drive cars set on a collision course. Who lives and who dies is judged by the public. I’ve read one another book by this author and their writing really seemed to work for me.
Girl Underwater by Claire Kells
Avery is one of only five survivors of a major airline disaster, which includes three little boys and Colin Shea, who happens to be her teammate and the guy she hasn’t stopped thinking about for weeks. A romance in the backdrop of a survival story where characters have to depend on one another? That is my jam.
They’re Strictly Friends by Chloe Liese
This romance promises verbal sparring and witty jabs between friends confused about their feelings for each other. Dare I say could it be on par with The Hating Game? I’ve been looking for a romance that has the angsty banter like that book did. I do think this book will be up my alley regardless.
Lovewrecked by Karina Halle
A hate to love romance between two characters who get shipwrecked after travelling to the same Wedding destination. This book also has the grumpy/reluctant hero and bubbly heroine which is one of my favourite dynamics.
Lotus Flower Bombed by Kenya Goree-Bell
Instant attraction between a successful business owner and rich billionaire in Japan. I have to say, the premise doesn’t sound like my usual type of romance but that cover has a gorgeous palette and drew me in.
Basically all the books that have been on my to-read shelf for way too long.
Beach Read by Emily Henry
This is a relatively new release but I have been looking forward to reading this book for so long now. I’ve heard that this contemporary romance between two writers is actually quite hard hitting and I’m really excited to pick it up this month.
Trail of Lightening by Rebecca Roanhorse
This book was pitched as ‘an indigenous Mad Max: Fury Road’ but more apocalyptic monster hunters. Sign me up!
Storm of Swords Part II by George R..R Martin
This is happening. I shouldn’t be in any rush to finish this series because who knows when that 7th book is coming, but I’m also excited to get back into this world.
Please share your thoughts on these books, and let me know what books you’ll be reading this month!

My KU romance tbr is HUGE :D, I usually wait until I have a good amount of KU books on a list, before I sign up for it, but that also means I have to be patient – I’m not very good at it – lol.

This is such a good idea! I definitely need to wait until my list of full of books I actually want to read lol, I’m definitely not utilising the subscription as much as I could/wanted too.
