MAY READING PLANS

MAY READING PLANS

Hello bookworms! I hope you’re having a great weekend. Today I’m going to briefly talk through all the books I plan to read in May.

Reading wise, I had a bit of a dreary April. Whilst I read a lot of books that I loved and rated highly, when I look back on them, I wasn’t really taken by surprise with any of those books. (Probably because a few of them were rereads…) And so a lot of my SFF, Romance and Thriller book picks for May were chosen because I want to be shocked or surprised.

May is also Asian Pacific Heritage month, and my favourite YouTuber Cindy from Reading with Cindy is hosting her annual Asian Readathon during May. I’ve chosen a book for each of the genres I typically read each month: SFF, Romance and Thriller. I love the challenges this year and can’t wait to participate and read some amazing books!

GOODREADS

Take the Lead is sizzling romance between a Puerto Rican professional dancer and Mountain man reality star who find love on a reality show centred around a dance competition. As all budding romances go between a bubbly female lead and a brooding love interest, this book hits all the beats you expect a good romance novel to hit. It’s flirty, fun, with just the right amount of smut. But Alexis Daria takes this book to the next level and does more than what’s expected of the average new adult novel. With important conversations about Latina women in the entertainment industry being type casted and over-sexualised, this book features many elements that make it an exceptional and fresh addition to the genre.

“Romance was volatile, and if they came out of it with less than they had going in, she would be devastated.”

GOODREADS

Emergency Contact was one of those books that bought an interesting array of mixed reviews upon its release. Despite the fact that I’m not a huge contemporary reader, picking up a YA contemporary every now and again for a lighter read feels very homey.

I can happily say, Emergency Contact does just the trick. But it’s accompanied with important elements that heighten this story from your average fluffy YA contemporary to an honest young adult story about flawed characters.
